DUMBO Underfoot at the DUMBO Arts Festival 2014

I am honored to have my ambitious outdoor site-specific project entitled "DUMBO Underfoot" on view as part of the 2014 DUMBO Arts Festival.

You can also get an inside peek at my art studio at Studio Milo, 20 Jay Street, 3rd Floor #309, Brooklyn, NY 11201.

Project Description:

Curious about the remains of old railroad tracks outside of my DUMBO studio on Jay Street, I was fascinated to find a rich history of industry that was literally underfoot.

The Jay Street Connecting Railroad was built at the turn of the 20th century to transport cargo off the waterfront and directly into warehouses that still stand today.

"DUMBO Underfoot" highlights these obsolete tracks by decorating them with striking and colorful patterns inspired by the burgeoning industries that defined Brooklyn at this time: coffee, soap bubbles, sugar, shoes and Brillo steel wool pads.

For this one weekend in September, the tracks and their rich history will not be overlooked, and instead will be transformed in a new way, much like New York City itself.
