I have always been crafty. When I was a little girl my father would take me to Pearl Paint and indulge me with colored pencils, markers and erasers. I would spend my weekends happily cutting and pasting. Once I transformed my bedroom into an aquarium using clay and construction paper and charged my family 25¢ admission to take a look. (10¢ for children.) On the holidays I would make place cards for each of my relatives and one Christmas I twisted napkins into elf boots.
My craftiness led me to a job designing at Martha Stewart Living in New York City. There, I flourished in the holiday department, spending my days designing Christmas tree ornaments out of cookies, tree skirts adorned with mice, gift wrap with snowmen families, and ribbons decorated with Santas.
Now, I have a new adventure, joining Alene Candles as their Creative Director. Perfect for me, because I’ve always loved candles, body care, and fragrance. When I visit another country, the first thing I do is go straight to the pharmacy or supermarket to discover what kind of soap and shampoo people use, and what it looks and smells like.
In addition to my love of holidays and candles, I am fascinated by the odd, the quirky and the overlooked. I am inspired by patterns on everything from squares of toilet paper to the stickers on fruit at the supermarket. In my free time, I love to pursue anything that catches my eye.
Take a look at my work and let me know what you think.
